Zoe brings in the BBC
It’s not my fault, they started it….
Okay, Yes, I know. I have been bringing in lots of movies and TV shows with people in corsets and courtly manners. I know, I know. It is summer and we should be doing seeing more action popcorn movies on the shelves. And they are coming, I promise.
But in the meantime I am indulging my “Inner Austen” and bringing in as many of these wonderful BBC Masterpiece Theatre shows as possible. There was a stretch a couple of months ago when every Sunday night you could retire to your sitting room and be surrounded by Emma, and Mr. Darcy, and the Miss Dashwoods. These adaptations are wonderful and full and beautifully retold versions of Jane Austen’s tales.
So again, not my fault, I had to do it.
When some of the other great BBC series became available, I had to bring them into the store. Here is a list of some of my favorites, in no particular order:
Geroge Elliot’s: “The Mill on the Floss” and “Silas Marner”
Anthony Trollope’s: “The Barchester Chronicles” and “The Way We Live Know”
Elizabeth Gaskell’s: “Wives and Daughters” and “Cranford” (which I watched this weekend and LOVED!)
We also have on the New Release wall “Middlemarch”, “Daniel Deronda” and “Adam Bebe”.
In the BBC TV Section we have old favorites like “Lorna Doone”, “Ruby in the Smoke”, “Horatio Hornblower “. And there are enough versions of “Jane Eyre” that you could write a Master’s Thesis on Mr. Rochester alone. If you are looking for newer corset styles watch “House of Elliott” and my all time favorite “The Duchess of Duke Street”.
So, don’t just limit your viewing to popcorn movies, (though I love those too) and don’t forget there is more out there then just, “Emma”, “Pride and Prejudice”, “Sense and Sensibility”, “Northanger Abbey”, “Mansfield Park”, and “Persuasion”.
