Brandon's 007-esque Movies

Ten Films Starring James Bond
With the new 007 movie hitting the theatre, I thought I’d suggest 10 films that aren’t 007 movies, but star a James Bond . . .

1. THE MAN WHO WOULD BE KING (1975)
Sean Connery & Michael Caine star in this excellent adventure film. Directed by John Huston.

2. THE MATADOR (2006)
Pierce Brosnan not only stars in this film, but his production company also produced it. A really nice recipe for a movie. Big thumbs up.

3. ENDURING LOVE (2004)
The newest secret agent, Daniel Craig, stars in this indie film I just recently watched. An impressive character film that demands your attention. I think Craig has some real chops as an actor- he should be a great Bond.

4. THE ROCKETEER (1991)
I was fifteen when this movie came out & I saw it at the Drive-In. As a youngster I loved it. Now, it holds up as a decent popcorn flick.

5. THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER (1989)
Connery plays the defecting Russian submarine commander in the first of the Jack Ryan films. This is an excellent big-screen movie if you got the means, the atmosphere is perfect for a political thriller.

6. OUTLAND (1981)
A western in outer space. Connery plays a marshal, with shotgun and all, in this classic sci-fi favorite. If you at all like sci-fi, this is a must see. Check it out.

7. MUNICH (2005)
Spielberg hadn’t made a solid movie since Jurassic Park in my opinion. Then came Munich. A tightly-woven thriller that features Daniel Craig. Get around to seeing one of the best pictures of 2005.

8. SAINT JACK (1979)
I had to do some searching to find a movie with George Lazenby that I could recommend. He’s not in Saint Jack much, but the film is a gem that I found last year by surfing through our comedy section. It’s directed by Peter Bogdanovich (Last Picture Show, Paper Moon)

9. THE CANNONBALL RUN (1981)
Roger Moore in a satirical role. An early 80’s comedy that’s really pretty silly. But, I guarantee you that if you saw it back then, you’d still get a kick out of it.

10. THE GREAT TRAIN ROBBERY (1979)
Yet another Connery film, but let’s face it — he’s been the most successful 007. This is a nice popcorn, caper film with a great cast and was a very nice blockbuster for it’s day. Donald Sutherland co-stars.
