Kaelen's Top TV Land Pix
It has been just in the past few years that I’ve begun to watch and enjoy TV shows. These are some I’ve found and enjoyed.
24
I think that people need the incredible passion and intensity of something to bring them alive. 24, for guys mostly, seems to appease that requirement. It takes us away from our mundane lives and ignites a flame of emotion. 24 is fun and action packed, full of surprises that make the story interesting. If you are not into the whole terrorist shoot-em-up game, then you may not enjoy 24, but the show will give you something to look forward to. Beyond incredible action the story deals with other issues, such as race, the limits on torture, office politics, presidential policies, and the US government.
THE WEST WING
In my opinion, THE WEST WING is the most intelligent and powerful TV show in existence. Whether you are a Republican or a Democrat you can appreciate the honesty and integrity with which President Bartlett arms himself to lead the country. Unlike 24, which chronicles the bravery of field operatives, the West Wing tells the story of the President and his staff and the decisions that they have to make. They people in this story are incredibly inspiring and so informative. You can learn so much about our government and the pressures that they are constantly under. The first four seasons are terrific before writer Aaron Sorkin leaves and the ingenuity in the show deteriorates. Even so, I love all the characters for very different reasons, but each makes me think. This show inspired me to take a true and dedicated interest in politics and our government. If you watch one TV show, this is the one to watch.
M*A*S*H*
No one in my generation seems to like or no anything about this TV show. Not every episode is great, but it’s such a funny, endearing, and
quality show. This Korean War show chronicles the MASH (Mobile Army Surgical Hospital) unit 4077 as they treat incoming wounded and struggle to keep sane. Benjamin “hawkeye” Pierce (Alan Alda) is the central character and he never ceases to joke and tease. This is a show that one could watch every now and then for just a few episodes and get great enjoyment from it.
FIREFLY
Joss Whedon’s FIREFLY is a magnificent show that Fox never even finished the first season of. Sometimes you just have to wonder at the supposed intelligence of the television community. I’m not the biggest fan of science fiction movies or TV shows and I still loved Firefly. The show is about a transport ship piloted by Capt. Malcolm ‘Mal’ Reynolds (Nathan Fillion), which navigates the galaxy, 500 years in the future, trying to avoid warring factions as well as authority agents.
ALIAS
This is my guilty pleasure. I feel slightly embarrassed that I’m even saying this, but who could say no to a gorgeous women kicking’ butt around the world? Anyway, it’s a fun and entertaining story that I can’t help enjoying. After the first 2 seasons the show gets a little over the top (not that it wasn’t already headed in that direction), but I really enjoyed watching the first couple of seasons and the struggles that Sydney Bristow (Jennifer Garner) goes through to succeed in her new life.
