It is fun to browse at Reckless
Reckless Video does have standard genre sections for Comedy, Action, Drama, etc, but one of the things that makes the store special (and a lot of fun to browse through) is our array of nooks, crannies, and subsections... sometimes small and sometimes not-so-small sections of movies among the more normal categories that might be just what you're looking for (even if you didn't know you were looking for it). Finding the right section-- the one that really captures your imagination-- might keep your movie-watching schedule booked for a month, so feel free to wander around and see if anything catches your eye.
This page will always be highlighting one of Reckless Video's spotlight sections. Right now, it's...
Concerts
(located beside Song & Dance)
The Concerts section at Reckless video has more than just film of musicians performing... though we do certainly have those DVDs. Of course you can find a number of bands playing both historical and
more recent concerts within this section, like Bjork: Live at Cambridge or The Who: Live at Royal Albert Hall, but the section isn't limited to just that one definition.
The documentaries about bands can also be found here, like Metallica: Some Kind of Monster, covering the long running metal band's fight to stay on track through alcoholism and personality clashes, or loudQUIETloud- The Story of The Pixies, which documents the reunion of the widely influential band that only became popular after their breakup. These pictures contain songs and performances by the bands, but are films in their own right, with stories to be told and characters no less colorful than most fiction you could rent.
Music videos also get filed here, such as the Criterion Collection release of the Beastie Boys Video Anthology.
We also have the complete stock of the Work Of... directors collections, which features the beginnings of now-accalimed filmmakers like Michel Gondry and Spike Jones.
The movies about music festivals are also kept here, including the classic Woodstock: The Director's Cut, a wild time capsule about a particular time and place, as well as the Woodstock '99, which is fascinating in its own right. Message of Love: The Isle of Wight Festival is another document of the end of an era, and the collapse of the 60's festival ideal. Glastonbury is also new to the store, recording a yearly festival that has survived since 1970.
Remember that not all of the concerts and music documentaries live in this section: some films are kept elsewhere. The Bob Dylan epic No Direction Home is kept in our director's section because it was made by Martin Scorsese, as was the documentary The Last Waltz. Similarly, because Jim Jarmusch has a director's box over in our Edgy Indy section, that's where we keep his film about Neil Young, Year of the Horse.
