Classic Western Style

Acclaimed actor Ed Harris's (Gone Baby Gone, The Hours) directorial debut, Appaloosa, is a western starring Harris and Viggo Mortensen (A History of Violence, Hidalgo) as a pair of lawmen brought in to defend a lawless town. Hired to protect the town from a villainous rancher (Jeremy Irons: Kingdom of Heaven, Stealing Beauty), the two men are tested in both their duty and their friendship when a woman (Renee Zellweger: Leatherheads, Down with Love) comes between them.

Dramatic Turns

The re-telling of a classic story, this year's Brideshead Revisited revisits the lives of English nobility in the 1920s, and the excesses and relationships between Charles (Matthew Goode: Match Point, The Lookout), Celia (Anna Madeley: In Bruges, Stoned), and Sebastian (I'm Not There, Enduring Love) as they struggle with family, religion, and society.

Woody Allen's (Cassandra's Dream, Manhattan) newest film is Vicky Christina Barcelona, sending practical Vicky (Rebecca Hall: The Prestige, Starter for 10) and adventurous Christina (Scarlett Johansson: The Nanny Diaries, Lost In Translation) on vacation to Spain, where both women fall in love with the same artist (Javier Bardem: The Sea Inside, No Country for Old Men).

Kevin Costner (Dances With Wolves, Mr. Brooks) stars in Swing Vote as a non-political layabout who holds the final, outcome-deciding ballot in an election set in the near future. As the Republican (Kelsey Grammer: Even Money, 15 Minutes) and Democratic (Dennis Hopper: Hell Ride, True Grit) candidates court the favor of the man who could make either of them president, he must decide if he's ready to take a more serious approach to life and political apathy.

The Family That Preys is the newest movie by Tyler Perry (Meet the Browns, Diary of a Mad Black Woman), a family drama starring Alfre Woodard (Take the Lead, Beauty Shop) and Kathy Bates (As Good as It Gets, Misery) as lifelong friends whose relationship is thrown into turmoil by their adult children's extramarital affairs.

Steeped in themes of racial and social acceptance, American Fusion is the story of a middle-aged immigrant Chinese divorcee who feels she'll forever remain single and under the thumb of her extended family, until she meets her chance at true love in the form of a Mexican-American man.

A medical student (Jeremy Strong: The Happening, The Messenger) finds himself on a strange journey after he's failed by his father/doctor/professor (Peter Bogdanovich: Infamous, Broken English) in Humboldt County. He's picked up by Fairuza Balk (American History X, Almost Famous) and taken to California's "Lost Coast," where Frances Conroy (The Seeker, Ira and Abby) and Brad Dourif (Pulse, Seed of Chucky) run a household that exists outside the system, growing marijuana.

For fans of Dane Cook

Dane Cook (Good Luck Chuck, Employee of the Month) specializes in bad-dates-for-hire in My Best Friend's Girl... His strategy: after one night with Dane Cook, a lady will realize that her other prospects aren't so bad. Jason Biggs (American Pie, Guy X), after striking out with his dream girl (Kate Hudson: Raising Helen, Fool's Gold) enlists Cook to work his particular magic... what could possibly go wrong?

Monsters

Mirrors is the new movie by horror director Alexandre Aja (High Tension, The Hills Have Eyes), starring Kiefer Sutherland (24, The Lost Boys) as an ex-cop who is being haunted by an something evil, trying to force its way into his house from the other side of mirrors.

On the lighter side, Netherbeast Incorporated is a horror-comedy about an office staffed entirely by the undead. With Judd Nelson (Airheads, The Breakfast Club), Dave Foley (The Kids in the Hall, Postal), and Steve Burns (Christmas on Mars, Blues Clues).
