Harold and Kumar Strike Back
Following their adventure to the neighborhood White Castle, Harold (John Cho: American Dreamz, In Good Company) and Kumar (Kal Penn: The Namesake, Epic Movie) end up in a bigger, wilder, more outlandish journey in Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay. On their way to Amsterdam, they wind up labeled as terrorists, imprisoned in Guantanamo Bay, and escaping through a wild route from Miami to Texas, reuniting with Neil Patrick Harris, and eventually passing the pipe with George W. Bush... all the while, being chased by a racist agent (Ron Fox: Semi-Pro, Blades of Glory) who is convinced that the pair are proof Al Qaeda and North Korea are working together to destroy America.
Monsters, Blood, and Fights
Neil Marshall's (Descent, Dog Soldiers) homage to his favorite films growing up, such as Escape from New York, The Road Warrior, The Warriors, and The Omega Man, is Doomsday. After a virus decimates the population, Scotland is walled off and abandoned... but when the same virus threatens to destroy London, a scientist (Rhona Mitra: The Number 23, Get Carter) has to travel into the wastelands to find a cure.
The survivors in the enclosed, post-apocalyptic Scotland have devolved into a violent, tribal nation, and outsiders from the world that abandoned them aren't met with open arms.
The sequel to the popular 1987 vampire film, Lost Boys: The Tribe brings back Corey Feldman (Rock and Roll High School Forever, The Goonies) as vampire hunter Edgar Frog, who sees trouble when an unknowing surfer (Tad Hilgenbrinck: Epic Movie, American Pie: Band Camp) and his sister (Autumn Reeser: The Girl Next Door, The O.C.) move to vampire-infested Luna Bay, only to find themselves targeted by the young, adventure-seeking vampires who use their power to never grow old, and never die.
An ancient Chinese demon rises again in a small, southwestern desert town and sets out to take over the world and steal a guitar in The Adventures of Johnny Tao. Learning kung-fu from movies, Johnny has to fight the demon who possessed his best friend and turned the local biker gang into ravenous zombies... and reclaim his father's guitar.
a little more down-to-earth
The acclaimed festival favorite The Band's Visit follows an Egyptian police band as they get lost on their way to a show in Israel. Stranded in a small desert town with no hotel, the band stays with the owner of the local diner, where their worldviews and language barriers make for an interesting night for everyone involved.
A documentary about the 11-member Paskowitz family, Surfwise details the life and philosophy Doc Paskowitz, his wife, eight sons, and one daughter as they travel the country in a cramped trailer and become champion surfers.
