Treasure Hunting

Patriot/Adventurer Benjamin Franklin Gates (Nicolas Cage: Lord of War, Guarding Tess) returns to save another historical relic in National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets. Searching for the truth behind the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, he reunites with Justin Bartha (Failure to Launch, Gigli) and Diane Kruger (Troy, Wicker Park) to track down the missing 18 pages from John Wilkes Booth's diary, which leads to an adventure that takes the trio to Buckingham Palace, Mount Rushmore, and eventually to secrets that only the president has access to... so the team that stole the Declaration of Independence might just have to steal the President of the United States to solve their next mystery. Available on DVD and Blu-Ray.

Similarly, the History Channel presents The Hunt for John Wilkes Booth, covering the historical data around Lincoln's assassin and the 12-day manhunt after the famous night in Ford's Theater.

Department of Public Safety officer Erroll Babage (Richard Gere: First Knight, The Hoax) is training his replacement, Claire Danes (Igby Goes Down, Stardust), in The Flock, when he suspects that a missing girl is the victim of a paroled sex offender he was monitoring. Without the support of their department, the pair has to investigate the seedy underworld to try and track down the missing teenager.

Indie Odds and Ends

Steve Buscemi (Big Fish, Ghost World) is a cynical paparazzi photographer in Delirious, trying to get a profitable photo of a pop star (Alison Lohman: Matchstick Men, Things We Lost in the Fire) when he gains an "assistant," Michael Pitt (Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Last Days), who finds working for no pay and stealing gift bags from exclusive parties a big step up from sleeping in the subway. But for a young homeless man, access to the stars might be the biggest opportunity ever to come his way.

Jeff Garlin (After the Sunset, Full Frontal) directs and stars in I Want Someone to Eat Cheese With, about an actor who's been waiting for his big break for over twenty years. Looking to get his life on track, lose some weight, and find love, he meets a wild ice cream vendor (Sarah Silverman: School of Rock, Jesus is Magic) who could cause more problems than she solves, or could be just what he's looking for: someone to eat cheese with.

Vincent Kartheiser (The Indian in the Cupboard, Alpha Dog) and Geoffrey Arend (Garden State, It Runs in the Family), friends since high school, never seem to get their lives on track. One failure after another, they think they've found the cause: Zelda Sparks (Sarah Carter: Haven, Pledge This!). Killing Zelda Sparks follows the three as they play a few savage games, one-upping each other, but do any of them know when to stop?

A gory black comedy about literal vagina dentata, Teeth stars Jess Weixler (Little Manhattan) as an abstinent teenager who finds she has a surprising weapon against predatory men. A more traditional horror movie, Lost Colony: The Legend of Roanoke tells the story of the legendary pioneer colony in that vanished in 1587. George Romero (Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead) releases his fifth installment in his "Dead" series, Diary of the Dead, taking a hand-held video diary approach to the zombie apocalypse.

Vexille is the new anime/scifi/action picture by the makers of the Appleseed series. Set in 2077, a special forces team must infiltrate the nation of Japan, which closed its borders ten years earlier.

Adam Sandler's Happy Madison Production brings us Strange Wilderness this week, starring Steve Zahn (Employee of the Month, Rescue Dawn) as the host of a television wildlife program. With ratings failing, he and his dim-witted crew make one last ditch effort to keep their show afloat: film the legendary Bigfoot... which wasn't going to be easy to begin with, but gets increasingly harder as more and more comic mishaps interfere.

A number of new TV shows are new this week in our TV New Release section, including the third season of Jim Henson's The Muppet Show, the complete 1980s high school series Square Pegs, the first season of Exes & Ohs, the BBC miniseries Cranford with Judi Dench and Michael Gambon, and Billie Piper in Jane Austen's Mansfield Park.

Older movies... New on DVD!
Movies that hadn't been previously available are released in our New to Reckless section, resurrecting them from late-night cable broadcasts and poorly transferred VHS tapes... and Reckless makes them available!
