Comedy Oscars
When 16-year-old Juno (Ellen Page: Hard Candy, X-Men 3) finds herself unexpectedly pregnant, she heads down a road that won Juno this year's Oscar for screenwriting. Unsure about her friend/boyfriend Michael Cera (Superbad, Arrested Development) and working with a childless couple (Jennifer Garner: The Kingdom, Elektra and Jason Bateman: The Break-Up, Smokin' Aces), Juno's quick wit and independence made the film a runaway hit with both audiences and critics, as well as a best-selling soundtrack.
A competitor for Juno's writing Oscar, Lars and the Real Girl stars a lonely Ryan Gosling (Half Nelson, The Believer) who thinks he's found the woman of his dreams in a life-size "Real Girl" doll. As he introduces his inanimate girlfriend to his brother (Paul Schneider: The Family Stone, Elizabethtown) and sister-in-law (Emily Mortimer: Match Point, Lovely & Amazing) and eventually the town, Lars eventually finds himself in a strange love triangle when he develops feelings for flesh-and-blood Kelly Garner (Thumbsucker, Bully).
40 Years in Heaven
The newest picture from acclaimed director Sidney Lumet (Dog Day Afternoon, Network), Before the Devil Knows You're Dead, casts Philip Seymour Hoffman (Capote, Happiness) as an executive who desperately needs money and convinces his younger brother (Ethan Hawke: Before Sunrise, Lord of War) to help with a jewel heist. When the sure-fire scheme goes wrong, the brothers and their father (Albert Finney: Miller's Crossing, Erin Brockovich) have to navigate the dangerous pathways of guilt and responsibility. With Marissa Tomei (My Cousin Vinnie, Wild Hogs).
Sci-Fi/Fantasy
Uwe Boll's (Bloodrayne, House of the Dead) newest film, In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale, is a fantasy epic that sets Jason Statham (The Transporter
, Revolver) in the magical land of Ehb. When an army of orc-like Krugs led by Matthew Lillard (Without a Paddle, Wing Commander) descend on his farm, Statham must travel to rescue his family from an evil wizard (Ray Liotta: Goodfellas, Narc). With John Rhys-Davies (Raiders of the Lost Ark, Lord of the Rings), Ron Perlman (Hellboy, Enemy at the Gates), and Kristanna Loken (Terminator 3, Bloodrayne).
In keeping a pair of franchises rolling, Alien vs. Predator: Requiem sends the monsters from the Alien series and the Predator series to a small town. Beginning where the first Alien vs. Predator ended, crashing an Alien-infested Predator ship in Colorado, where an unsuspecting sheriff (John Ortiz: Miami Vice, Before Night Falls) finds an increasing body count and increasingly gruesome crime scenes... and as the Aliens and Predator clash, they could destroy the entire community.
A few more...
Jeff Anderson (Clerks, Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back) directs and stars in Now You Know, a comedy where a young man (Jeremy Sisto: Waitress, Dead & Breakfast) has his wedding
cancelled by his fiance (Rashida Jones: The Ten, Little Black Book). When he travels back home to New Jersey to get his life back in order, Jeremy ends up spending time with his slacker buddies, pulling pranks, drinking, and attending un-cancelled bachelor parties.
