Disturbia is new this week, the Rear Window-esque story of a high school student (Shia LaBeouf; Holes, Constantine) under house arrest, who, bored and peering through binoculars, begins to suspect his next door neighbor is a serial killer. Chris Rock (Head of State, Pootie Tang) co-writes and stars in I Think I Love My Wife as a banker bored with family life, and the many temptations that could lead him astray. The Salon is the new film from the creators of Barbershop starring Vivicia A. Fox (Kill Bill, Ella Enchanted) as a businesswoman trying to save her salon from being demolished, and Queen Latifah (Beauty Shop, Taxi) takes a more serious turn in Life Support as a former drug addict trying to reclaim her life and reconnect with her family. Hot on the heels of Pathfinder and The 300, Nomad the Warrior tells the story of a hero who must unite the warring tribes of Kazakhstan, and David Arquette (Scream, Eight Legged Freaks) stars in a con-man story, where grifters seduce rich, lonely housewives, in Slingshot. Finally, the stars of Kung-Fu Hustle team up in Kung Fu Mahjong.
The cartoon heroes of the late 80s/early 90s get their computer animated feature debut in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie. In other family Ice Cube returns in the sequel to Are We There Yet? in the country-life comedy Are We Done Yet, and a group of teens run wild when they are snowed in at and airport in Unaccompanied Minors. Rupert Grint (Harry Potter, Driving Lessons) plays sidekick to a fart-powered superhero in Thunderpants.
The Main Stream with Roy Blount, Jr is a journey down the Mississippi River with author and humorist Roy Blount, and White Light, Black Rain is a darker documentary, a retrospective or archive footage and current interviews documenting the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
New in the TV section, HBO's popular Rome series has just released Season 2, as well as the second seasons of the classic Muppet Show and the cult superhero farce The Tick. Timed with the theatrical release of The Simpsons Movie, Fox has released the tenth season of The Simpsons. We have the first season of the magic and sci-fi series Dresden Files, and the Anime section has just picked up the third disc of Trigun.
